While the SR is ultimately more powerful, the VG has a LOT more power in the RPM ranges a street engine lives 90% of its life at - 2000-4000rpm. This is where street car use vs track car use becomes a pretty significant factor. If you're mainly racing, the SR would be the way to go as above 4600rpm they are nearly identical and the SR is a much lighter engine. For a street car the choice (if physical engine SIZE isn't a limiting factor) it's tougher. The SR will probably in the MPG battle, so in some cases it's a "have your cake and eat it" engine. But if cut and thrust is your game, or if our car is over 2500lbs or so, the VG just might be the better bet.
