Nissan SR20DET - All alloy 2.0 litre, twin cam, 16 valve, turbo (Garrett T-28) with four coil distributorless electronic ignition, closed loop - sequential fuel injection, air to air intercooler, vacuum operated blow-off valve and factory adaptive learning ECM. Sourced from a 1993 S13 Nissan 180SX, the engine and gearbox had only done 8000 Km in Japan prior to it's donor vehicle being rammed in the passenger door and being written off. I bought the engine in October 1994. ExhaustInstalled a custom made 45mm spacer between turbo and cast iron dump pipe to get dump pipe to exit behind (instead of on) the steering idler arm. 3" mild steel pipe from dump pipe to 3" catalytic converter, 3" pipe from cat, through rear crossmember to rear muffler, which is a Genie 3" double offset straight through stainless steel unit P# 792814. Fuel SystemFuel tank has had 1/2" feed and 5/16" return lines installed in the factory location. 1/2" feed line to 800mL anti-surge tank behind RHS rear foot well, 1/2" feed line from output of anti-surge tank to Pierberg EFI pump mounted on front of rear crossmember, 5/16" EFI feed line from pump to fuel rail (via EFI filter), 5/16" return line from standard fuel pressure regulator to tank. There is also a 5/16" overflow line from the top of the anti-surge tank back into the top of the fuel tank. All new tinned steel 5/16" bundy tube fuel lines have been run. DrivelineGearbox is standard SR20DET 5 speed with standard clutch - so far. Tailshaft is a shortened Holden V8 unit. Diff is an R200 3.9:1 LSD from a 300ZX (Z31 I think). Drive shafts are custom made and heat treated using 300ZX C.V. joints and 240K axles. They've been made shorter than the 300ZX units to suit the 510's narrower wheel track. SuspensionFront struts are 180B (610) with 1 degree negative camber, lowered and rotated spring seats (rotated to provide greater tyre clearance). Strut inserts are Tokico Gold. Springs are lowered Jumbo's. Castor rods are Holden LC Torana (thicker and adjustable). Anti-sway bar is 22mm custom made, bending between sump and crossmember. Rear A-arms are 240K. These arms were relocated inwards by about 20mm each to retain original 510 track width (read: to be legal). 240K shock absorber mounts were cut off and 510 mounts have been welded on. Shockers are KYB (Toyota parts - just quietly), springs are lowered Jumbo's. Crossmember has had A-arm mounting holes slotted to correct camber and toe, exhaust hole enlarged to 4"-ish and anti-sway bar mounts added. Rear anti-sway bar is 20mm custom made, under crossmember type. BrakesFront rotors are 276mm ventilated Mitsubishi Verada V6. Calipers are Holden Commodore VL Turbo. Rear rotors are 290mm 300ZX. Calipers are also 300ZX (yes I bought the complete rear end!). This combo produced a little premature rear end lock up, a Tilton proportioning valve mounted in the boot fixed that. Master cylinder is 15/16 280ZX and booster is Jap import 200B (710). All new tinned steel 3/16" bundy tube brake lines have been run. Bodywork DetailsBonnet is louvered above air filter. Boot lid and rear 1/4 panel 'fins' are lead-wiped to produce neater panel gaps. Guard lips are rolled up for tyre clearance. Transmission tunnel is modified to suit SR20 shifter. Battery bracket is rotated 90 degrees and lowered 2". Radiator support panel is opened up to suit wider radiator core and intercooler pipe work. Key locks are removed from fuel filler door and boot lid, these are now opened by remote solenoids (with back-up cables). Mirrors are Ford XW GT 'teardrop' mounted on custom aluminum spacers. Radio aerial is Mazda 323 installed inside A-pillar. Bumper bars are re-rolled and re-chromed, door handles and other parts are also re-chromed. Paint Colour and Type"Daintree" green metallic. Spies Hecker 2 Pak (2C057). Underside of floor coated with grey 'Stoneguard'. Wheels and TyresSimmons OM16 16x7 3 piece. Falken GR/B Z rated 205/45/16 at all four corners. Special Engineering FeaturesReversed engine crossmember, reversed bend in steering drag link (for engine clearance), custom engine mounts and gearbox mount, 360 degree tailshaft loop, Nissan Skyline radiator (I think - got it from an importer who wasn't sure), thermal fan, Narva H4 and H1 halogen headlights (400W total), Mitsubishi Scorpion twin handbrake cables (shortened) and floor mounted lever, Toyota Corolla retractable seat belts, Ford 'smartlock' hexagonal door locks and central locking. InteriorMomo Champion wheel, Autometer vacuum/boost gauge, Mallory tacho, re-trimmed velour Mitsubishi Lancer front buckets, re-trimmed velour Datsun Sunny coupe rear seat, velour door trims and head-lining, charcoal cut pile carpet with serious sound deadener under it, re-skinned dash top, painted dash face. Stereo and SecurityAlpine 7517S detachable face radio/cassette with CHM-S600 6 disc CD shuttle, Alpine eq/crossover, Alpine MRV-F300 V12 4ch amp, Alpine 3544 2ch bridged sub amp, Alpine DDC-R17F 6.5" splits (front doors - tweeters mounted in air vents), Alpine SPE-6920 6"x9" (rear shelf), Alpine 6126HX 12" subwoofer x 2 (removable box). Black Widow auto arming alarm with fuel cut and ignition immobilizer. Performance
People who helped make it happen
People I would rather not thankThe car spares places who always ask "what car is it?", shortly followed by "ha ha ha....what would you want to do that for, it won't fit"....... yeah right guys! The so-called experts who charged big $$$ for work I could have (or is that should have) done better myself. "Serious Fours & Rotaries & Performance Cars No. 2".
