Harry Jones' VG30ET 510 |
I purchased this car about 10 years ago from a cancer society car auction in Phoenix. This was an original Arizona one owner car that had taken a turn for the worst. When I got the car, it had a blown head gasket and mice, yes mice, which had made a nice home of it. I fix it and drove this car for 5 years before building it to its current state.
The modifications started with wanting more horsepower and promptly went out of control with the development of a VG30ET turbo setup. I’m still fixing this car up but here are the current modifications. Engine: Nissan VG30ET –Stock block with a 200sx intake, Mitsubishi Starion air to air intercooler and blow off valve modified with external vacuum source, T4/T3 turbo with custom exhaust manifold and integrated Tial wastegate, factory ECM with add-on fuel injection system. Exhaust: 2 ˝ in. down pipe with integrated 1 ˝ in. wastegate dump pipe (reason for smaller dump pipe is space is at a premium in the engine bay), 3 in. mild steel exhaust pipe to rear of car with a Dynamax muffler. Fuel System: In tank 300zx bracket with an Infiniti Q45 pump, 5/16 in. supply and return lines, stock 270cc injectors with two 370cc injectors in the intake pipe ran by the add-on system. Drivetrain: Stock T5 Borg Warner trans with 3.50 gear set, Centerforce dual friction clutch, custom driveshaft, R200 diff with 3.70:1 gears, and shorten half-shafts. Suspension and brakes: Shorten 87 200sx V6 struts with a coilover setup, front brakes are redrilled Infiniti M30 hubs with Q45 discs and calipers. Rear is a totally adjustable penultimate crossmember with relocated inwards pickups for tire clearance. Rear brakes are 85 300zx 11.5 in. discs and calipers. The control arms are stock 510 units with modified 83 200sx caliper brackets. The wheels are 17 x 7 Enkei RSEs and the tires are 205-40/17 front and 215-40/17 rear Yokohama Parada IIs. Future mods will include a VG33 turbo engine using forged VG30DE crank and rods, forged pistons with total seal rings, mild ported heads, 480cc injectors with a perfect power ECU, 60mm throttle body, new intercooler and a Ford World Class T5 trans with a 3.35 gear set. |
