Mike Spreadbury's Woodburn carnage page
(also known as I'm so torqued!!)

This is what we think happened; I dropped the air pressure out of the tires (to about 20psi) as I was having a real hard time hooking up. The light turned green and I was slow responding (it was too bad, the other runs I had excellent reaction times) so I gave it even more power. I got about 30-50 feet out and BOOOM! CRASH! BANG! The torque ripped out the bushings from the moustache bar by spreading the ends where they are pressed in, I can't imagine how much torque that it would take to do that [An estimated 2500ft/lbs at the wheel - ed]. When that failed it allowed the diff to settle, which exploded the drive axles. The drive axles were spinning around and caused quite a bit of damage under the car, severing the rear brake line, and denting the hell out of everything. The drive axle finally lodged itself into the the exhaust pipe destroying it. There are quite a few tears in the sheet metal where the stud for the bushing for the moustache bar and it was almost ripped out of the body-- amazing.

Note how bent back the
stud for the bushing is

The force bent the moustache bar pretty bad, note the paint is off of the bar where the busing goes

psgr side was damaged, even!

Note exhaust damage
