The history of my 510,
currently known as "Red" Day 1 - August 28, 1995.
I bought the car for $650 and pushed it home because the L16 had a hole in
the block..but it came with a spare L18 and 4-speed. My dream for the car
at this point was to have it handle really well and have enough power to
run a mid-15sec 1/4mi. In 1995 that was a reasonably fast 510. The drivers' door wouldn't stay closed, the passenger side would turn into a fishbowl when it rained, no trunk lock, and was basically a non-running beater. At this point I contacted Don Potter (noted Datsun engine builder) and asked how much engine $5000 would get me - he said it might get me to 130hp and meet my goals, but $5000 was on the very low side. At that time I figured I could swap in a KA24 (240SX) engine and make 140hp stock! December 1995 : Upgraded to Suspension Techniques springs and anti-sway bars.
In 1996 I finally upgraded to 15 inch
wheels. Also at this time I fancied a
flex air dam and side skirts:
March 1997 - Aug 1998. Conversion to VG30DE,
rack & pinion.
Look as of July 1999 (Mt. Shasta event):
Aug 1999: MR2 seats, Grant steering wheel
October 1999: sold car to someone in
California for $5K
May 2001: 200#/in front springs, Roadster
comp rear springs, Penultimate rear crossmember.
July 2001: Sara autocrosses it for the first
time August 2001: First track day @ PIR (Portland, OR) May 2002 - last dragstrip runs with non-turbo V6
May 2002-Feb 2004:
Twin turbo swap/upgrade incl Autometer gauges
April-May 2004:Upgrade exhaust system from
2.5in to 3.5in, upgrade brakes to Z32 300ZX, upgrade wheels to Z32 300ZX
(16x7.5), 15 gallon fuel tank, adjustable lower control arms, 3.36:1 LSD
axle. October 2004: First drag strip with twin turbos
